AI takeover? Elon Musk predicts agents to vastly outnumber humans on the internet Humans may soon be a minority on the internet, says Elon Musk. Musk's comments came after Cloudflare's CFO Thomas Seifert's prediction that humans will soon be nothing more than a rounding error in terms of internet traffic. While you may talk to ChatGPT or Claude today, the AI agents are crowding the internet, and soon, we humans may turn into a minority. At least that is what tech trillionaire Elon Musk believes is about to happen. On X, Musk shared comments from Cloudflare CFO Thomas Seifert who said in an earnings call that “humans will be a rounding error on the internet.” The tech trillionaire insisted that this will happen. “AI agentic Internet traffic will obviously vastly exceed human usage. Not a close call at all,” Elon Musk wrote. “Cloudflare’s forecast is accurate." advertisement ❮ ❯ Read Full Story To give you some context, Cloudflare has previously stated that AI bots already outnumber humans online, accounting for roughly 57 per cent of all internet traffic based on HTML in April this year. And this disparity may only grow with time. Elon Musk shared his perspective on X. 1 human for every 1000 bots online During the earnings call, Thomas Seifert tried to explain how this trend was unfolding today. “If the current trends continue, we think in five years, non-human traffic will be as much as 1,000 times as much as human traffic,” he said. “In other words, humans will be a rounding error on the internet.” But this is not happening because humans are not going online anymore. Instead, the Cloudflare CFO says that there is simply a massive rise in bots on the internet. You see, unlike a human, an AI agent can browse through thousands of websites for a single request. That is, by the time you look up a new smartphone on three websites, your AI agent may do the same thing across hundreds of webpages. And that is just one AI agent. Today, you can set up multiple AI agents with tools like OpenClaw quite easily, allowing you to automate your work. And these agents can in-turn browse through websites on such a large scale. This change is happening quickly. For context, Cloudflare had originally predicted that bots would first outnumber humans on the internet sometime in 2027 . However, as mentioned earlier, this actually happened in April this year, roughly a year before the estimate. But you should note that there is more to the picture. While bots account for most of the traffic now when it comes to HTML requests, humans still hold roughly 65 per cent of total web activity for now. That is to say that bots have more activity when it comes to navigating webpages, articles or documents. But humans still have the edge when it comes to things like using apps or watching content – such as scrolling Instagram or using maps. - Ends Published By: Armaan Agarwal Published On: Aug 10, 2026 12:49 IST Also Read | Internet has more AI bots than humans now, Cloudflare CEO makes unexpected announcement Also Read | AI agent books priority gym slot for its human by hacking, will Tatkal train tickets be next?
