Children's pyjamas sold on Shein Canada are being recalled over flammability concerns

Some children’s pyjamas sold on Shein Canada’s e-commerce platform are being recalled because the clothes may easily catch fire. Health Canada said the recall issued Tuesday applied to 66 Michley-branded, one-piece children’s pyjamas that were sold in Canada between May and December last year. “The Michley-branded children’s pyjamas violate the flammability requirements for children’s sleepwear, posing a risk of burn injuries to children,” the federal agency said. “Loose-fitting children’s sleepwear can contact ignition sources such as stove elements, candles, and matches more readily than tight-fitting sleepwear, and once ignited will burn rapidly, potentially resulting in severe burns to large areas of the child’s body.” What products are being recalled? The recalled pyjamas contain the words “Michley,” come in sizes 80 through 130 and are printed on a sewn-in seam label, according to the advisory. The recalled pyjamas, manufactured in China by Yiwu Chuanrun Trading Co., are “green with a dinosaur patch, pink with a bunny patch, yellow with a giraffe patch and purple with a rabbit patch,” the notice said. The company hasn’t received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada as of July 16, according to the notice. Advice for consumers Health Canada told consumers in the advisory to “immediately stop using the recalled product,” then to safely get rid of it and ensure it can’t be used again. Previous warnings Consumer groups have warned shoppers about fast fashion websites like Shein following a global study that found safety issues in products, according to a CTV News Montreal article published in November.
