In December, police received information about an unregistered .22 calibre rifle that was secreted in the roof cavity area, adjacent to the manhole within a house in Molong. The police were granted a search warrant to enter that house and search it for the rifle and ammunition. The search was executed at 12.10pm on December 19. Huggett, 28, was living at that address at the time and told police where to find ammunition. A file picture of a person using a laptop and a mobile phone. Huggett admitted to having handled and used the various items. He said he bought the slingshot and blow darts from an overseas website and used the items to shoot at cardboard boxes while at his home. All items were seized and Huggett was told he would be summoned to appear in court. He pleaded guilty to possessing ammunition without a licence, and two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon in relation to the blow dart and slingshot. Huggett was sentenced in Orange Local Court on April 16, 2026. His solicitor Isabelle Worrad said Huggett had a limited criminal history and he was not aware the sling shot was a prohibited weapon. "These items were bought off a popular website called Temu," Ms Worrad said. "He was under the impression that if you can buy them and you can receive them, they are not an illegal weapon in NSW. "With respect to the ammunition, he did have a firearms licence and had it from when he was 18. "That licence lapsed because he did not have the money to renew it." Ms Worrad said Huggett was open and honest with the police and the items were only used on his property. Judge Bryan Robinson said both weapons were classified under the Firearms Act and carried sentences of up to 14 years of imprisonment for the most serious cases. "I need to look at the nature of the weapon," he said. "You just need to be more responsible." Mr Robinson convicted Huggett and fined him $1000 for all three offences. He fined him $400 for possessing the ammunition, $300 for possessing the slingshot and $300 for possessing the blow dart pipe and darts.
