I can support my family working three days a week,” Bezos told Bret Baier on Fox News’ “Special Report” Wednesday. “That’s what productivity in the economy means.” Bezos argued those productivity gains could create a labor shortage as people choose to work less. Baier challenged that prediction, pointing to roughly 30,000 corporate roles Amazon had cut since late last year. Bezos said the company had substantially expanded its workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic as customers staying home drove a surge in orders. Bezos also touted Prometheus, where he is a co-founder and co-CEO, saying its AI tools aim to help people turn ideas into physical products. “We’re going to make the tools so easy to use that anyone will be able to be an engineer,” he said. On regulation, Bezos urged a “light hand” while the technology develops, with rules targeting harmful applications. “You don’t want to regulate knives, you want to regulate murder,” he said.
