In Paris, on November 5, 2025. JULIE SEBADELHA/AFP The French authorities have imposed two fines on Shein, totaling €22 million. Following investigations conducted in 2025, the Directorate General for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) announced two sanctions against the Chinese e-commerce company on Wednesday, June 3. The first fine sanctions the lack of information in the order confirmation emails sent to Shein customers. The emails failed to mention the order's price, the seller's name and the delivery time, even though these details could be accessed via the customer's account. Shein was fined €16.7 million on this count. The second fine (€5.7 million) relates to Shein's non-compliance with the right of withdrawal, which grants every e-commerce customer 14 days to change their mind, and a lack of environmental information. "Nothing justifies, given the established facts, sanctions of such magnitude," the platform argued in a statement, contesting the administrative sanctions as "manifestly disproportionate and discriminatory" compared to those the DGCCRF had previously imposed on companies in the e-commerce sector. The company insisted that "no harm to consumers was established" during the investigations that found, among other things, the missing information in the order confirmation emails and the absence of environmental information sheets for certain items. Shein announced it would contest the decision. Over the last year, the French state has now imposed more than €210 million in fines on the platform, which attracts around 25 million unique visitors in France every month.
