While it’s unclear what’s to come for the brand’s next iteration (founder Michael Preysman has launched a site since), we’ve started to look for our own alternatives. I spoke to 13 fashionable folks, Strategist staffers, and former Everlane loyalists to see where they’re shopping instead. I ended up with a mixed bag of things from sustainable companies and fast-fashion brands that are more affordable without sacrificing quality. Unsurprisingly, T-shirts came up the most, but I also unearthed recommendations for button-downs , denim to rival the beloved Cheeky Jean, shoes that could outwalk the Day Glove flats, and more wardrobe staples. DDAM Roma Tee $125 $125 DDAM is another sustainable brand that was recommended to me. Journalist Hannah Benson has had her Roma Tee for over a year, and it’s become a staple in her wardrobe. “It is an instigator for doing laundry — it can’t sit in the hamper long. I need it for most of my outfits,” she says. She says ARQ’s is not only softer and higher quality but also has a nice shrunken shape to it. For years, it was our best overall in the category for its perfectly proportioned oversize look and pleasing weightiness. Harrison prefers the linen-blend version, which comes in a very beachy striped option. “It’s the shirt you want for summer vacay that you would perhaps otherwise have bought at Everlane,” she says. Levi’s Ribcage Wide-Leg Women’s Jeans $98 $98 For a jean with flattering proportions comparable to the Cheeky Jean, Benson reaches for Levi’s Ribcage wide leg. “The backside is nicely snug, while the wider leg allows for more movement — maybe bad dancing, definitely running to get somewhere,” she says. Uniqlo:C Barrel Pants $60 $60 While Uniqlo isn’t considered a “sustainable” brand, Gelpi says “ sustainable can also include good or long-wearing, which their pieces are.” One item she’s had for at least eight years is the company’s barrel-leg pants. Aisha Joshi , editor at Produce Parties and writer of the Babyteeth newsletter, replaced her old Everlane loafers with this pair from the Swedish brand. They are much more expensive than Everlane’s, but Caruso points out that the brand hand-makes their shoes in small batches at family-owned factories that provide livable wages. A couple standouts: The Demi (similar to Everlane’s ballet flat ) and the Phoebe (similar to Everlane’s mary jane ).
