November 7, 2026 Global online marketplace Temu has signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on E-Commerce, joining collective efforts to strengthen intellectual property (IP) protection in the Philippines’ E-Commerce sector. Operating in more than 90 markets worldwide, Temu entered the Philippines in 2023, where it offers local shoppers a wide range of everyday products through independent sellers. Following initial discussions during the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Dialogue on IP Protection on E-Commerce in June, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) facilitated Temu’s signing of the E-Commerce MOU, with Deputy Director General Nathaniel S. Arevalo welcoming the platform’s commitment. “E-commerce platforms are a significant driver of consumer activity in the Philippines, making them important partners in protecting buyers and legitimate businesses from counterfeit goods. Temu’s participation in the MOU on E-Commerce will further broaden the collaboration among platforms, right holders and IPOPHL on intellectual property protection online,” DDG Arevalo said. Marketplace signatories to the E-Commerce MOU, including Lazada, Shopee, Zalora and TikTok Shop, have collaborated with IPOPHL on initiatives such as public awareness campaigns and IP Boot Camps for brand owners and online sellers. Globally, Temu has continued to invest in IP protection since launching its Intellectual Property (IP) Protection Portal in 2023. In 2024, it launched its Brand Guardian Initiative through which it has established regular, proactive engagement with over 3,000 rights holders. The platform’s proactive monitoring database covers more than 15,000 brands, using more than 47 million images and 9.5 million keywords to detect potential infringements before rights holders need to file a complaint. Temu is a member of the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC), the world’s largest non-profit organization devoted to fighting against the production and distribution of counterfeit goods. Temu and IACC have launched a joint program that provides an escalation pathway for takedown requests from IACC member brands and facilitates deeper cooperation between the platform and IACC member brands.
