The 30-second commercial urged viewers to download the Temu app and shop like a billionaire, showing a woman dancing and ordering a series of very cheap items, including a dress priced at US$8.99 and a wig priced at US$4.99. The commercial aired twice during the game and cost Temu an estimated US$14 million, part of a marketing blitz aimed at introducing American consumers to a marketplace built on ultra-low prices, a wide array of products and a gamified shopping experience. The spending produced results: Temu downloads rose 45 per cent on the day of the Super Bowl campaign compared with the previous day, according to a report by the trade outlet ModernRetail citing Sensor Tower data.
