Tweet Facebook Mail Temu and Shein orders could soon be flowing through Avalon Airport under a new international air freight deal aimed at tapping Australia’s booming online shopping market. Under the partnership, announced on Wednesday, international logistics company Teleport will establish an operations hub at Avalon to support cargo and e-commerce movement between major Asian markets and Australia and the wider Oceania region. The partnership is expected to speed up the movement of online orders into Australia, where consumers spent almost $19bn on online marketplaces in 2025, up 13 per cent on the previous year. Avalon Airport chief executive Ari Suss said the partnership was a significant step in the airport’s international cargo strategy. “Teleport has chosen Avalon because we can offer the capacity, speed and flexibility needed to support a fast-growing e-commerce network,” he said. The new deal will support cargo and e-commerce movement between major Asian trade lanes and Australia and other Oceanic countries. Teleport chief executive Pete Chareonwongsak said Avalon was the right fit for Teleport’s growth plans. “Cross-border e-commerce requires rapid, specialised processing, and our customers need faster, more reliable connectivity,” he said. “Avalon Airport is the right fit because it delivers curfew-free capacity processing, fast turnarounds and the flexibility to handle eCommerce alongside general cargo. “This partnership is a clear win-win: Teleport brings strong e-commerce volume and regional network reach, while Avalon provides the dedicated infrastructure needed as a stronger freight gateway for Victoria.” Teleport handled a record 347,885 tonnes of cargo last year and moved 167 million parcels, almost double the number it handled in 2024.
